Master Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan
The Texarkana Metropolitan Planning Organization is embarking on the creation of a Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. The MPO operates under direction from the US Department of Transportation. The main legislation guiding the MPO’s action is the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act – A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU). More information about how bicycle and pedestrian planning fit into the MPO’s direction is available in the SAFETEA-LU link below.
While the MPO’s main planning functions, and all its funding, is confined to the major roads of the Texarkana area, it is our intention to create a master plan that accommodates bicycle and pedestrian access to schools and other important destinations that may not be on MPO-funded roads.
At the opening meeting for this process, a presentation about the bicycle and pedestrian planning process was given and is available at the link below. The dates for public meetings are provided below and at www.TexarkanaMPO.org under Upcoming Activities. The information will be updated as times and places are finalized. In order to receive email notification of upcoming meetings, you may request to be added to the MPO’s email notification list by filling out the Public Notification form under Contact Us on the MPO website.
Whether you can attend a meeting or not, your input is welcome at all times. You can send an email to TexarkanaBikePed@alliance-transportation.com or fill out the MPO’s
Public Comment Form listed under ‘Contact Us’.
